SEASON WRAP-2011

Sorry it has been so long since last update. The 2011 season was one of higha and lows. The varsity finished with a 3-11 record ,but did qualify for Districts for the sixteenth straight year. The lady Warriors played their best matches of the year but dropped matches to North #1, Lake Stevens ,and eventual Wesco/Kingco #4, Monroe. The Warriors were led by [Soph] Sid E. with 19 kills and 4 bk. [Soph] Mikenna V with 15 kills, [Jr.] Maddie H with 58 assists and [Soph] Julia H with 33 digs. We will greatly miss our two graduating Seniors- Allie Rutz and Selma Tanjo, but are excited about the players returning. The jv finished 7-1 in league play and the Frosh, under new coach Sara picked up four wins compared to only one in 2010. Julia was awarded first team Wesco All League honors. Maddy R,Selma and Allie were 2nd team . Maddie H. and Sid were Honorable Mention. Future of EW volleyball is bright. Hope you will participate in the March Booster club auction. This raises funds for our program-especially to help with costs of Summer camp. Hope many of you are playing club and /or involved in other sports at EW. FINAL NOTE -THE VARSITY QUALIFIED FOR STATE ACADEMIC AWARD WITH OVER A 3.6 GPA- ONE OF THE HIGHEST 4A SCHOOLS. HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY SEASON AND GET READY FOR 2012 . GO WARRIORS

WARRIORS 1-1 IN LEAGUE

Last week the varsity opened league play with a loss to defending State 4A champ.Jackson. They rebounded with a 3-0 victory over Cascade. Strong performances were the word of the night. Sid E was awarded the game ball for her 7 kill/4 block kill effort. Allie, Julia, Maddy, Maddie and Sydney all had yearly PB's in at least one category. The jv also split and remain in contention for an upper bracket finish at the NOW league tourney Oct.22. The Frosh lost two tough matches and are currently 4-4. This week we celebrate Hawiian Night against Kamiak on Thursday. Wear your island gear and join the fun. GO WARRIORS

WARRIORS TAKE THIRD AT SOUTH WHIDBEY

After finishing a very difficult pre-season schedule the Lady Warriors had a great day at the 16 team Tropical Invite at South Whidbey on Saturday. Finishing pool play at 5-1 they advanced to the top tier of match play. Playing their best ball of the year, they dropped a hotly cotested match to top ranked Chelan ,but then bested Port Angeles 26-24 25-23. They came from behind in both games to take home 3rd place honors. All ten varsity members made significant cotributions. A very balanced offense and much improved defense led the way.Both the jv and Frosh teams finished the pre-season 4-2. The regular season begins tomorrow at defending State 4A champ Jackson and then home on Thursday to take on Cascade. Hope to see you at a match soon. GO WARRIORS!

FROSH EARN 'HARDWARE' !

The C team concluded a great first week of play by capturing first place in the Silver bracket at the EW FROSH INVITE on Saturday. After finishing second in their morning pool they defeated Monroe to set up the title game. The Lady Warriors lost a tough opening set to Stanwood, but prevailed in the second to send the match to a deciding third game. Trailing 13-10 the Warriors got a side out and setter, Katherine Wilson closed it out serving the last four polnts for the 15-13 win. All team members made significant contributions led by Katherine and libero. Kayla C. Next match is Monday at home against Bothell. Frosh and JV at 5:15 and Varsity at 7:00. Week One Results

If you were at Meadowdale High last night you saw a battle between two very good programs The State ranked,and senior laden Chiefs, eaked out a 25-23,25-23,25-23 win over the young Warriors. This was the second loss for the Lady Warriors to a state ranked team,but showed that they are improving rapidly and adjusting to the new defensive system installed this Fall. Game ball went to Soph. Becca Sharp for her outstanding serving and defensive efforts. Both the JV and Frosh teams had a great week winning against Woodinville and Meadowdale. Saturday we host a Freshman tourney starting at 9. Great chance to see a number of young future stars for only $3. Next home match against Bothell-Monday. Jamboree and First Match

After a week of tryouts and another of building our three teams it is time to see some different people on the other side of the net. Saturday we begin the competitive season with a jamboree at Terrace . All three squads will play three two game matches. The play begins at 9:00 and should end around 1:30/2:00. There will be a $3.00 charge to cover officials. Great chance to see a lot of volleyball and all four of our Dist. schools. Tuesday,the day before classes begin, we will have our regular season opener. JV and Frosh [C Team] start at 5:15 and the Varsity at 7:00. Ticket purchase is good for the entire evening. We hope you will join us often this season to watch the most exciting sport at the high school level. GO WARRIORS!

2011 EW VOLLEYBALL TEAM

Sorry for the delay. The coaching staff met until a few minutes ago making the final decisions. This was the most competitive group from top to bottom in a number of years. 2011 Season- Almost Here !

The EW volleyball coaches hope that you are enjoying the great summer weather that has finally decended upon the great Northwest. We had a great turnout for summer 'open gym',averaging 18-20 players a session. In July EW took 6th out of 19 teams at the WWU camp. The Lady Warriors also participated in a three week league at Glacier Peak and finished 4-2 with a large number of players, including several incoming Frosh, contributing.We are excited to get the new season underway and look forward to seeing everyone at 4:30 0n the 22nd of August. SOME IMPORTANT REMINDERS:All paperwork must be completed and turned in before you can turnout. Available online thru EW or Dist. 15 sites. ASB fee and sports fee paid before first match. May want to wait until after cuts to pay sports fee].We will have three teams- varsity-jv and frosh. At least twelve Freshpersons will make the final squad. Stay/get in the best shape you can. Check on CC camps/run with frinds/do 'Nicole' workouts. If you have car wash tickets sell them. Bring monies to the 'Wash' on the 13th-Will get out details on which shift we are working. SUMMERTIME and 2011 VOLLEYBALL

It is officially the start of Summer and we hope great experiences for you and your families. On the volleyball front we have already begun preparation for the 2011 season. Coach Nicole has been running open gyms- the scedule is on the calendar page. Last Saturday Sid, Maddie, Julia, Maddy, Allie, Mikenna, Syd, Rebecca and Selena participated in The KING'S INVITE. EW finished with a 7-3 record and 3rd place in the sixteen team tourney. Great start. Several details- Submit paperwork before first practice- Available on line or at open gym. -Be sure physical is current-We have dates on returning players and some incoming Frosh. -Take part in as much of our planned Summer volleyball as possible- it is certainly not required ,but the more work/play you get the better you will be. -We have a new Frosh coach- Coach Sara played for EW and was part of the 1997 team ,along with Coach Kirsten ,that finished 4th at State. We are excited to add her to our staff and wish Coach Holland the best. She will still be teaching at EW, and has promised to continue to help the program in other ways.
